As a Holistic Health Coach this is one of the best articles I have read, ever! You articulated the weight loss challenge so well and gave excellent advice on how to live, healthy first and if desired to lose weight!

Thanks for this post, am sharing with my husband. We have been on a wellness journey together the past few years and have reached the point where it feels like our new lifestyle.

My question is about “challenges” like the Whole 30, which we just finished, and also exercise challenges like training for a 5K, etc. How can we occasionally do these things without tilting into being disordered about it? I love the information I learned about my body and food from doing the Whole 30, but felt consumed with guilt over a homemade pop tart this morning. The answer could just be “don’t do them” and that is awesome. Am just wondering if there’s a mindful approach to these that can help. My husband LOVES challenges.

Thanks!

I actually love challenges! I have a program in my book called The Reset. I think it’s a good opportunity to focus on creating healthy habits and routines. You’ll likely feel much better which will give you some tangible motivators beyond weight loss and also is a way to learn about what works best for your body and reevaluate your relationship with certain foods. That said, if you don’t like doing these programs, there are certainly other ways. The point isn’t to lose as much weight as possible in the X number of days, but rather set new routines that will help you be more consistent after the challenge/program is over. Hope this helps!

Thank you! I’ll check out The Reset! I like challenges, just can get pushed into perfectionism mode during them at times so will try to shift into a mindset around consistency as the goal.

I agree! I think 1x a year is enough.

Love all of this. I’m nearing one year postpartum and that is always a nice time frame for me to want to start to focus on myself more and lose some of the baby weight. Your approach is very similar to mine and feels so validating to read :)
