Mia - well written! I try to explain this to my clients but it is often overwhelming for them to understand. Your blog outlines it so well. Thank you!

What are your thoughts on consuming soy milk (or any soy product) in relation to the isoflavones it contains that mimic estrogen? I would love to drink it daily as well but concerned about possible unwanted side effects.

Great Q and I totally get the concern. Most research shows the isoflavones in soy actually have a balancing effect and aren’t harmful in moderate amounts. In fact, regular soy intake has been linked to lower risk of certain cancers and better heart health. Unless you have a soy allergy or a specific thyroid issue, drinking unsweetened soy milk daily is generally totally fine. It's one of the few plant-based milks with real protein and it has only two totally natural ingredients.

My husband is hooked on Oatly for his morning coffee. And in his defense it is the best tasting I’ve tried in coffee, and at least we know it’s not the best, so..informed consent 🤪

I like Straus’ organic milk in the glass bottles and apparently it’s flash pasteurized so retains more nutrients, similar to the benefits of raw milk…
