Sunday Meal Prep | Week of October 6
October is getting spicy: spiced chicken. spices without heavy metals, and savory broth with 12 grams protein.
Hello October! I feel like we are officially entering high cooking season. In the summer I want to be out and about, but in the fall I crave spending time at home making cozy food with some football in the background that I’m not paying attention to. To kick off cooking season, I’ve put together a bundle of my favorite tools from Material Kitchen for you all. Check it out and use the code MIAMATERIAL for a discount—it’s really a great deal for some really high quality products that I use daily. This is only available for a few weeks and we have limited supply, so don’t miss out!
Tonight’s dinner is a spiced chicken with green olives (one of my favorite recipes from Foodwise!). It’s easy to make, and the leftovers are delicious, but if you’re feeling generous and social, invite the neighbors over. They will be impressed.
A few meal prep-adjacent things I’m excited about:
Balance Marble by Bleecker & Prince
I connected with Leehe Segal, designer of Bleecker and Prince, a few months ago—she introduced me to this pink marble, dotted with diamonds and pink sapphires, and I fell in love!! It felt so unique, beautiful, and intentional. I then learned that marble was the stone of potential. It is fabled to enhance dream recall and provide deeper insights into our motivations, fears, patterns, and possibilities. I think nutrition is so closely tied to potential. It allows us to show up as our best selves, dream big, think clearly, and act with intention. I have been wearing mine every day and can’t stop playing with it, which is a great reminder why I love this work.
Leehe generously offered for me to donate a portion of the sales of this gorgeous necklace to a charity of my choosing. I chose The Edible Schoolyard Project, an organization I’ve long admired for its commitment to educating and nourishing children through organic school gardens, cooking experiences, and meals.
An easy way to sip on bone broth
I love bone broth. It’s a great source of protein (especially collagen), can ease digestion and promote gut health, is incredibly hydrating and a natural source of electrolytes, can reduce inflammation, improve immune health, and more. The brilliance of Kroma’s bone broth is that it’s powdered, and even comes in on-the-go sachets—just mix in hot water! Great for travel, the office, or home. Plus it has 12 grams of protein per serving.
Better spices
Not sure if you saw the news, but the FDA found that certain ground cinnamons had such high lead levels that they were deemed not safe for human consumption (ugh). A few years back I actually looked into starting a spice business and discovered how difficult it is to source quality spices. One brand that I met with and really trust is Burlap & Barrel—they are above bar when it comes to their sourcing, sustainability, and overall ethics (they also supply some of the best restaurants in the world with their spices!). I sent an email to them earlier this week inquiring about heavy metals and was so impressed with their response that I attached it here.
Alright friends, let’s cook!!
I am very into this week’s menu. I know I made it, but I have to say I really like this one. The Moroccan stuffed eggplant is a favorite of mine, and I’m happy to see it make it’s meal prep return (sorry the bad picture, I need to take a new one). We also have an orange miso salmon, edamame noodles, and za’atar crusted chicken with a fridge dump salad to round out the week. Bon appétit!
