Sunday Meal Prep | Week of March 3
What I'm cooking + few other tidbits that you didn't ask for but might enjoy.
This is the sixth meal prep email I’ve sent, and I have to say that committing to this has really benefited me, personally. I haven’t always been the *most* organized with my own meal prep, but if I’m suggesting it to all of you then I better be doing it myself, lol. So here are a few things that I’ve noticed from regular meal prep:
I’m cooking more. This seems obvious but it’s real.
Going out for lunch less. I live way too close (like dangerously close) to Erewhon and as much as I love it, I do not need to get hot bar or the same darn chicken salad every day.
We’re having more dinners as a family. I love sitting down with Ozzie for dinner. He doesn’t always eat everything I make, but I think he benefits just by seeing us eat nutritious, well balanced meals. I always have a quesadilla on deck though if a meal is too adventurous for his palette.
We eat earlier. Since I’m prepared, dinner is ready earlier, which means (on a good night) the kitchen is clean (and closed!) by the time the kids go to sleep. This means a good 12+ hour window between dinner and breakfast and that I can just plop on the couch and enjoy a show after a long day.
Less takeout for dinner. Not only is it healthier (and generally cheaper) to cook at home, but it also comes with way less plastic packaging, which I’m all for.
I cannot emphasize enough the benefits of more home-cooked meals. A client in New York recently told me that she called a “healthy” restaurant she regularly ordered from to ask about seed oils and found out that they *SPRINKLE BROWN SUGAR* on all take out orders for “freshness.” WTF!? I still order takeout about once a week because it’s fun and convenient, but if the majority of your meals are takeout or from a restaurant, then I’m glad you’re here.
If you’ve been meal prepping with us and noticed any benefits, please let me know in the comments. I’d love to hear! xx
* MENU: WEEK OF MARCH 3 *
Can I just say that I’m really proud of how many pictures we have of the menu this week? I’m trying to let go of some of my aesthetic neurosis in favor of more visual cues, so here were are. It’s a start!
We’re starting the week with a stuffed eggplant that I have already made 10+ times in 2024. It took me a while to get the recipe down, but I’m obsessssed. The filling is really quick and easy and is very good with or without the eggplant. We also have one of my favorite recipes from Foodwise and a few other delicious and quick weeknight delights.
If you’re shopping today, here’s your grocery list and my pantry bible. I’m continually updating and adding to this, so keep checking it as you grow your pantry. But before we get started, a few things I’m into:
What I’m listening to:
Huberman Lab with Dr. Becky Kennedy: Protocols for Excellent Parenting & Improving Relationships of All Kinds
I’m a big fan of both the Huberman pod & Dr. Becky, so I loved this podcast. For a different, yet complementary (and perhaps controversial) take on modern parenting, listen to this recent episode of Honestly with Bari Weiss. They way I see it: the more you know, the more you know. You know?
Hot chocolate, anyone?
LMNT Chocolate Salt
One change I’ve made in 2024 is not buying chocolate when I grocery shop. It just feels unnecessary and I don’t see the benefit. That said, I recently discovered LMNT’s chocolate salt and I’m V V into it. It’s a nice warm, chocolate-y hit at the end of a long day or when I’m feeling peckish for no reason in the afternoon. I know, I’m kind of late to the game on this one, but in all honesty it sounded weird to me until I tried it.
I’ve got my eye on Spring…
Deiji Studios
I’m going to Costa Rica for Spring break (wahoo!) and just ordered a few things from this brand, including this black dress, a white one, and a cute linen short set.
Last (but not least), Amazon is having a big book sale right now, which means Foodwise is 50% off and The Well Journal is about 10% off. Wahoo!
Okay, let’s cook!
