Happy Sunday, friends.

This week was a super emo one for me. Ozzie started kindergarten—his first day was totally uneventful for him (kudos to the amazing teachers who make our kids feel so comfortable), but me…that’s another story. I had to pull over for a little cry, lol.

His preschool was such a special place. In true French fashion, they served organic, family-style meals every day—fresh, high-quality food eaten together with real cutlery and cups. Now I’m in my lunch-packing era. Lunchboxes feels sad to me in comparison, but I have to admit…I love our lunchbox (this is the one we use and it’s 50% off right now).

I know a lot of you are in “back-to-school” mode—or at least back-to-routine after summer. I’ve been leaning into the kitchen this week and made some fun new recipes I’m excited to share. Tonight’s highlight: slow-cooked beef with limey slaw and smoky beans. It’s easy, flavorful, and best of all my whole family ate it.

And speaking of what’s ahead…fall is shaping up to be busy in the best way. Paid subscribers get the full experience here: my weekly recipes, monthly live chats, access to our chat for Q&A and community support, plus some fun extras I’ve been cooking up behind the scenes. September’s live is the works, and I’d love your input—what topic would be most valuable for you right now?

Finally, if you’ve been thinking about joining Beyond the Plate, now’s the time—enrollment closes at the end of this week. It’s our group coaching program where we take the principles I talk about here and put them into practice together, with accountability, community, and real results. We’ve got such a great group already signed up, and I don’t want you to miss it.

A few meal-prep–adjacent things I’m into right now:

  • My Always Pan. I was cooking with a friend this week and she made a comment about my Always Pan, which got me thinking about how much I use it. Literally for about 90% of my cooking. It’s the only pan I have permanently on the stovetop.

  • Hiya’s new sunscreen. It’s been a very hot back-to-school week in LA, and while you know I’m obsessed with their hydration powder, I just tried their new kids mineral sunscreen and it’s great.

  • Fresh whites. My favorite white shirt got a massive stain, so I finally replaced it. When I remembered I had a discount code (MIA15), I also snagged this tank top. Highly recommend.

Alright, let’s cook.

It’s the last week of August, and we’re eating our feelings (in the best way): slow-cooked beef with smoky beans, a fresh chicken Caesar pasta salad, light turkey lettuce wraps, a peak-produce steak salad, and a cozy but bright crab + arugula spaghetti. ¡Bon appétit! 🤌
