Gaaah I freaking love summer. Longer days, being by the water, hanging with friends…it’s a contagious energy I just can’t get enough of. On Friday, we were at a 4th of July event where both my kids were dancing to live music and running around like animals—just like I remember doing as a kid.

A rare photo of the four of us. These white jeans didn’t stay white long, but I love them (discount code MIA15).

There’s something about summer where all the rules fly out the window—and I’m not just talking kids’ about bedtimes. Chips, ice cream, an extra glass of rosé. It all just goes down easier when you’re having fun.

On one hand: YOLO. On the other: ugh. I genuinely—like, to the bottom of my heart—believe the point of living a healthy life is to have a happier life. How you treat your body today sets you up for how you feel tomorrow. And: it feels good to feel good.

But the best things in life usually aren’t the easiest. I often don’t want to go to the gym (like right now—this is me procrastinating), but I feel better after and I love the results. Just like washing down a bag of chips with a skinny margarita feels amazing…for about 2 minutes.

Finding that intersection—between healthy routines and enjoying the hell out of life—isn’t easy. It takes effort. It’s a forever work in progress. Frankly, I’m still figuring it out too.

Sometimes it means discipline, willpower, and boundaries. Other times, it means loosening the reins and just living a little.

This is the dance. This is the work. This is life. And if there’s one thing I know for sure from my work as a nutritionist: going wild on the weekends and restricting during the week doesn’t ever work.

So if you went overboard this weekend let it go, and make a commitment to yourself to nourish this week. Get a good night’s sleep, drink a lot of water, maybe help your body detox with a little glutathione, and plan some healthy (but delicious, not boring and restrictive) meals for the week.

On the menu tonight: Pan-Fried Halibut with Herbed Cauliflower Brown Rice Pilaf & Peach Salsa

Tonight we’re having a halibut with a zesty peach salsa, cauliflower brown rice pilaf and roasted veggies—it’s delicious and satisfying for all the right reasons. Maybe invite a friend over for a 5pm meal, pour yourself a non alcoholic drink — like me favorite Ghia, recap the weekend, and head to bed early.

xx Mia

A few meal-prep adjacent things I’m currently into:

  • The perfect mesh tote for the beach and travel (especially if you’re packing for a trip!).

  • If you’re looking for a savory on-the-go snack, here are a few of my favorites: dry roasted edamame, lupini beans, Ella’s Flats.

  • I was chatting with a friend about a gift to bring (or send) for a weekend at a friends house, and we landed on a Frog Hollow Peach delivery. Unique, summery, delicious, and fun to share.

Alright, let’s cook.

We’re keeping the holiday weekend energy going with a dinner-party-worthy (but super simple) halibut topped with peach salsa—so good. If you have a little time today, prep the chicken meatballs for tomorrow night’s dinner. They’re light, summery, and you’ll be thrilled to just heat them up when the day gets away from you.

Later in the week, we’ve got a Japanese-inspired sunomono noodle salad with shrimp, my family’s favorite crispy chicken tenders, and more easy, feel-good meals to carry you through.
